Vali Myers is Monday’s Muse

Bow down Bohemians to a high priestess of the magical life, whose original art I was lucky enough to drink in on this day five years ago *swoon*

Chief among my inspirations, Vali Myers remains an enigmatic stamp on Australia's cultural landscape. She who inspired so many - from Patti Smith to Debbie Harry, Salvador Dali to Janis Joplin - was a true Bohemian, living her art and her magic, bowing to neither convention nor complacency.

"I love the dark side," she told Australian Style in 1995. "It's beautiful. It's like swimming under the sea. You don't know quite where you're going but it's beautiful. And it can be tough sometimes. You have to come up for air."

This beautiful article, an interview from her deathbed, proves again Vali's distinct mettle.
