Eclipse Windows

Fucking Windows

I have a tendency to panic when something requires upgrading or updating. A creature of habit and card carrying late adopter of any kind of technology (read: when I'm forced to) I delight in the old ways. The old old old ways. But the past week it has not escaped my low tech attention that Windows, having given everyone fair warning and every good chance to upgrade, has now taken the choice from our hands and is doing it anyway. Randomly or now or while you were sleeping.

And it strikes me that Microsoft is behaving just like the eclipses.

We have had fair warning, after all. Every astrologer worth their stars sees an eclipse rippling for months either side of the blackout. We daisy chain them together and build the language of the links. We know they will require us to leave the clunky outmoded elements of our past behind. If we do not heed the warnings we delight in deferring with a toss of our head or a little click, we may well be unceremoniously left behind. What was previously our go-to will no longer work and no amount of resistance or whinging or wailing will change the unalterable fact: it is time to upgrade.

This pretty pair of eclipses are forcing us to build a bridge from our past to our future and then crumbling that connector just as our foot lifts off it. It doesn't take a computer genius to work out what could happen if you stop or lurch backwards. The stars and the gods and the planets alike are exhorting us to move on, to hone our skills and make sure the operating system we are using is brand spanking. Best we heed the little boxes and start now, if not sooner.

If yesterday calls, you don't necessarily have to answer.

Disclaimer: Lest any of us be thinking our "automatic" upgrades make us immune to the process at hand, comments about I-anything will fall on deaf ears and make me sigh deeply for any poor Apple-ista who may just be missing the point of the post / eclipses.

Words c. Kerrie Basha 2016

“Only you could manage to draw the comparison between Windows updates and the eclipses, good job”
