Tao of Travel
Time gets away from us. Absorbed as I have been the last few years - in beautiful things like honing my craft and writing my book and falling in love - travel has taken a back seat. My focus and world contracted by design. Two days ago a very good girlfriend and I took off on a tropical adventure. Time here is slow. The vistas are new and staggeringly beautiful. I am immersed in another culture, a world away from my own. The distance adds perspective and meaning to all that I will return to and wrap myself up in again.Until then I am reminding myself how very much I love to travel. How opening myself up to foreign places and people and culture and food and a different starry sky adds so much to the sum total of me.Travel takes you and shakes you up so that you settle back into a more expansive version of yourself. It tests you with smiling eyes. It forces you to live in the moment and roll with wherever it takes you. And I had forgotten just how much I love to be hooked on this feeling, eyes wide and senses soaked in the delights of a foreign land. The fire is lit once more."The wish to travel seems to me characteristically human: the desire to move, to satisfy your curiosity or ease your fears, to change the circumstances of your life, to be a stranger, to make a friend, to experience an exotic landscape, to risk the unknown..."~ Paul TherouxThe Tao of Travel: Enlightenments from Lives on the RoadWords © Kerrie Basha, 2017
