Star Year’s Eve

And so the wheel turns once more, Bohemians. Today is the astrological equivalent of New Year's Eve because at around 4am tomorrow morning Wollombi time, the sun wafts from the dreamy Piscean realm into the firebrand go getter energy of Aries. Tune in and you will feel the change when you wake in the morning.

This means that this eve is also the Autumn equinox, when the day and night are of equal length as we begin the descent towards the dark days of Winter. In witchy circles, Mabon celebrations would be held tonight to give thanks for the harvest of the season just past. It is a time to reflect on what you planted in Spring that grew and flourished throughout the warm, active months of Summer. Traditionally this referred to crops, which by now were stored for the long cold days ahead. But beyond that, the rituals of Mabon ask us to consider what has grown in our lives and in our hearts over this period. What will we continue to nurture and what will we let fall dormant?

Like any new year celebration, this is a lovely time for resolution and to make lasting change in our lives. The moon is waning from her peak last Sunday/Monday and so now is a fabulous time to let go of anything that does not serve Beautiful You. If there has been quarrel or dispute, if there has been illness or defeat, if life just hasn't quite been the bed of roses you were after, take a moment tonight to banish the lot so you may awaken with a fresh start tomorrow. A beautiful way to do this is to find an autumn leaf and write these things on to it. You can crush it to dust in your hand, perhaps set it aflame it if it helps to transmute negative feelings or you can simply leave it to nature to whither away.

If on the other hand, things have been going swimmingly for you of late (and hoorah to that, Bohemians) then this eve is a time to give thanks for bounties bestowed, new friends and faces and places that have joined you on your path. Honour these blessings that have come into your life - your gratitude signals to the Universe that you're up for more of the same.

Traditionally a fire was lit - the first of the season - and kept burning until Spring returned. Wine and warming food was shared with friends, winter blankets were put on beds and stores were checked, all in readiness for the coming Winter. It may not be quite cool enough where you live to do the same but this eve I will be lighting a small fire for the purpose of ritual and to greet the new season as I wave goodbye to the old. This is how we move through the seasons of our life.

Equinox blessings one and all ~ Light a candle and make a wish, Bohemians ♡
