Meditation for Overthinkers
Just a regular Tuesday lunchtime in Maitland…
The amount of resistance our monkey mind throws up when our body and soul start to lean towards meditation is really quite remarkable. It was the subject I kept trying to blithely skip when I was studying all those years ago and then when I did go my mind ran all over the place like an out of control toddler. I couldn’t see the benefit other than philosophically. And there was always the myriad excuses vying for my favour.
"I don't have time"
"I'm really stressed out"
"I'm too busy"
"I can't sit still"
"I don't know how"
The truth is that meditation is the antidote to all of the above and more. Best of all it works: at the time you do it and even moreso when it becomes a practice that gifts you clarity, calm and insight. It is proven both anecdotally and scientifically.
I have designed meditations specifically for people who can't / won't / don't meditate because I was a card carrying member of the resistance for years - at a time in my life when I needed it the most. My meditations are engaging on all levels. Each works as a stand alone or to accumulate a new handy life skill each week. They are fun and different every time for those of us with a low boredom threshold *raises hand*. You will leave feeling better than when you arrived.
There's an oft quoted zen proverb that states you should sit in meditation for twenty minutes every day — unless you’re too busy and then you should sit for an hour. Yes really. How about starting with an hour every week, learning a whole bunch of tools that can help you really relax, cultivate calm and manage stress? You're on.
Join me every Tuesday from 6.30pm - 7.30pm at Cessnock Yoga Centre and get your zen on. Starting tonight.
