Equinox Tidings

And so the wheel has turned once more. Moments ago the sun wafted from the dreamy Piscean realm to the firebrand go-getter energy of Aries, hauling us from the watery depths into our baptism of fire as the astrological cycle begins anew.

The sun’s movement into the cardinal signs is the marker for the two solstices and the two equinoxes. These are potent significators of change. Cardinal energy is linked at its most basic nature to transition. Ancient astrologers originated the term cardinal from the Latin word for hinge because it is at this time every three months when the earth shifts and ushers in a new season and a new way of living.

The Aries ingress is the equinox, when day and night are of equal length. In the southern hemisphere we begin the descent towards the cauldron space of Winter. Our northern hemisphere friends feel the surge of optimism and light that is the true start of Spring.

As we all travel between eclipses with our world shaking around us and the ground quaking beneath our feet, we can feel unsteady and unsure. Transition is a process that asks us to embody the vigour and vitality required to birth new ways of being in our world and at the same time accept and truly relinquish what must fall away. It takes time and commitment and a willingness to surrender to the discomfort of this limbo. We are making space for the new and wonderful that hasn't yet made eye contact with us. Know that it is coming and trust the magic held in the changes. We are sitting on the hinge as new doors creak and begin to open up to us.

I have come to accept the feeling of not knowing where I am going. And I have trained myself to love it. Because it is only when we are suspended in mid-air with no landing in sight, that we force our wings to unravel and alas begin our flight. The miracle is in the unfolding of the wings. You may not know where you're going, but you know that so long as you spread your wings, the winds will carry you.
