The Witchened Series: Lilith

The rock strewn path to the northern peak was sharp and steep. Its uneven ground called to the bare frenzied shuffle of the enchanted ones, the scent of their longing and furies, the belly hammer of their knowing.
The witch made her way bent and deftly through the spiny terrain, eyes turning inward to read the sulphurous map that swirled deep in her belly. Lilith's mark burning a familiar itch below her shoulder blades, the tight pull of her skin twisting beyond tension.
Dark mother, thy true name is only spoken in ancient tongues. Conjured when blood and fury stain the world from deep in the dark. She hastened to the ancient platform as the basalt burned her soles and the iron quickened her blood. The sky howled time. The wind on her tongue told her when.
Rolling her breath around like a hoop she set the geometry in blood tones to form the mark and bellowed Her name. The rock ripped open as the Magna Mater rose screeching from the belly of the mountain and fixed her wizened matrescence on the witch.
Their gazes locked and the witch felt the tear across her back as the sky flashed its scythe. She slipped out of her skin and mingled with the stinging ink of the mother spirit, seeing the arc of time bent around Her cycles. Its codex wrote letters on the bones that awaited her return, resetting them into sturdy new shapes. Her old blood boiled and reduced. Deep in the pool at the base of her spine, something clicked like a key in a long lost lock.
Witchened, she rose reborn with the moon. Her eyes glittered with a fuller spectrum of knowing. The spell complete, the seed set, the choice clear. The sky perfect dark and wild with stars, her will burnished silver. She felt the old goddess move within her and made her way purposefully back down the mountain, her sights set firmly on what she must do.
