Equinox Tightrope

As we step towards this weekend's equinox at the Libran ingress, it may feel nothing like a journey to balance. More likely is its wild opposite, as mighty forces continue this week to light fires beneath us.The equinox is the moment that day equals night, light equals dark, our equator aligns to the centre of the sun. And that moment is a tipping point in every sense. We move into a new cardinal space and the door swings open to the new season.Libra's symbol is the scales of justice, its highest octave is temperance and balance. But as any card carrying Libran will ruefully tell you, their divinely symmetrical faces contorting ever so briefly, balance is a journey not a destination. The quest for balance presumes that you are not. In much the same way, our body seeks homeostasis by constantly adjusting our chemistry and biology. The cycles and seasons of our earth are a divine dance of opposites. In our lives we too perpetually hanker for this holy grail. This hallowed imaginary land where everything stills in its right place. And we tip ever so wildly in its seeking. The magic of any quest is folded into its many parts. Life is a see saw and a tightrope, all at once and all the time. We tip and we stumble, we regain our steady footing ever so briefly before we slip again. Some glorious days we will purposely swan dive from the centre, for there are many things in life worth losing our balance. Why peer at the fulcrum unblinking when you can look to the very edges, over them if you dare. See what you find hidden in the far extremes and hatch a plan to lug it back near the middle. Do not worry if you tremble, or fret about your wobbling.Balance is an act. The art of constant adjustment, whose counterpoint is held in its opposite. There is a very good reason we have so many little bones and so much sinew weaved in our feet. Your life demands you use them all.My point is, life is about balance. The good and the bad. The highs and the lows. The pina and the colada.Ellen DeGeneresImage via @sebastian.edwardWords c.
